Making Yessica's Hands (first attempts)

© Anastacia Tohill 2011 'Yessica's Journey'

Yessica is the main character in the animation Yessica's Journey. These are the first attempts I made to make her hands for a stop motion puppet.

There are many different methods for making hands with wire and this is just a few of them. I didn't use any of these particular hands as they were all too big for the puppet. It is also important to take time with the hand shape. Wire is used and twisted for strength and then Milliput is used for the main part of the hand, which is sanded with a dremel. Elastic plaster is used to wrap the hand so that the Latex can stick to something. Latex is coloured with Acrylic paint and then the hand is dipped into it. This is done several times to build up the skin on the hand.
